      Nah, I’m pretty sure that originates from the theater: when the show comes to an end, the curtains close.

    It took @Mike’s comment for me to realise I had thought that the drapes were concrete, which was a slightly bizarre mental image.

    Furthermore, where is Basil going to get the drapes? Will the Sheriff give them to him upon arrest as a welcome gift? Small towns really are more hospitable.
