I spent extra time inking this comic. I trust you've noticed.

#2.010: Pardon Me

Book 2 of MESS has only two main characters, as opposed to however many million were in the last book.  Everyone else is secondary (albeit some of those secondary roles will be larger than others).  In any event, yep, Amanda is Star #2.  I suspect many of you will not agree with this plan.  Such is life.

And her path will cross with Basil’s relatively quickly, so yay.

And yes, Troutman, we DO notice the extra time spent inking. Everything seems more defined, and the foreground pops more.

Thanks! I like when the effort I put into costuming is rewarded.

    WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT.

According to the sheriff, there are only two out-of-towners in Clark’s Point.

Basil is one. The other is his Fiancee. AMANDA IS IN CLARK’S POINT. THEREFORE AMANDA IS HIS FIANCEE.

    TROUTMAN. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.

This had better just be a cover for an investigation.

Whoa, slow down there, Tex. As much as I love Amanda AND love screwing with readers, she’s actually a native (albeit one that probably hasn’t been back in town since leaving for college): http://maryelizabethssock.com/comic/0082-girl-reporter/

Coupled with the earlier speculation on ME’s possible offscreen death and/or Basil getting with Amanda, I guess I jumped to conclusions.

        Sorry about that :) .

Note this line from Trout in the commentary:

“And her path will cross with Basil’s relatively quickly, so yay.”

If they were engaged, their paths (among other things) would be crossing regularly.

          QED. :)

Felicity will be here, though it may take a little while. I’m not randomly cutting away to several different characters anymore. She has to show up in the story naturally.

I’m happy to have Amanda as Star #2 actually, since I kind of like her more so than most of the other female characters. She seems like one of the nicer characters, and not throwing herself at Basil is a plus *CoughAndieCough*. I’m sure how poorly the other characters treat her contributes to my liking her though.

Don’t foget about the family hormones, girls can’t help themselves. But that said, I agree with you, I like Amanda as a character. I just had a horrible few moments when I thought she was Basil’s fiancee.
